Welcome to the Claudia Russell Electronic Press Kit
Thanks for stopping by our EPK. We wish we could perform live for you right now. But since we can't, we want to invite you to see us "live" through the magic of YouTube. These high-quality clips are from a variety of shows and feature Claudia Russell, guitar, vocals, Bruce Kaplan, mandolin/guitar/vocals. Our duo is our standard performing format, but we often enlist frequent collaborators such as Carl Byron on piano and accordion, Tom Tally on Viola and Debra Dobkin on percussion for an expanded line up. There are about 20 live performance videos of us on YouTube. Besides the videos, please check out some of the links that can also be found on this page:
A list of 200+ venues and radio stations we have performed at in the past. We are proud that more than 70 presenters have invited us back for repeated return performances including Club Passim, McCabes, Russ and Julie's, the Freight and Salvage and other top venues.
Check out what these distinguished presenters located all over the US have to say.

The Elevator Speech
Claudia Russell and Bruce Kaplan traverse a wide Americana landscape, stopping at wondrous musical landmarks along the way, tipping their hat to bluegrass bands, blues divas, jazz cats, Village folkies, and singing cowboys. Lesser performers might stumble or sound fake, but driven by Claudia’s expressive voice and distinctive guitar style, it all comes together beautifully.
Claudia has a knack for crafting tightly written songs that carry you to the sweet spots of youth and the autumn colors of growing older. Kaplan’s melodic accompaniment, on mandolin and electric guitar, is spot-on. All of this is served up with a generous helping of homespun humor and shaggy dog stories, making for a heartfelt and humorous evening of deeply engaging music.
Russell and Kaplan tour most often as a duo but also as a trio or quartet with Carl Byron and Tom Talley and as a member of the quartet Paper Birds with Katie Dahl and Rich Higdon.
Kudos and Compliments
The Milwaukee Journal-Sentinel wrote, "Russell has a voice that was born for folk music – she breaks hearts." Russell has won numerous other accolades including Best New Artist from WUMB FM in Boston, Best Musician in the East Bay Express Reader’s Poll, 2x Kerrville New Folk Songwriting Finalist, and high praise in Sing Out, the San Francisco Chronicle, and the Boston Globe. Paul Zollo, a senior editor of American Songwriter magazine, called her latest CD, All Our Luck Is Changing, “a masterpiece.”
Says Rich Warren in Sing Out (speaking our her Live Band Tonight CD):
“Claudia Russell is a great live performer and this showcase proves that. Her band – let’s just say they’re hot. Connect them to the power grid and they’d light up a medium-sized town. Live Band Tonight is as musically solid as they come and in the world of obligatory live CDs, it shines.”
